PLEASANTON — A man has been arrested early a year after he allegedly used a baton to beat a woman at the local BART station, causing a concussion and a traumatic brain injury, authorities said
The 35-year-old man was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and is set to be arraigned Friday morning, court records show. Prosecutors allege that he used a seven-inch baton to beat a woman in the head on Oct. 13, 2024 at the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station.
The woman told police that her attacker had been yelling derogatory things to other women present at the station, and had said, “f— you b—-,” shortly before hitting her. She went unconscious, causing a concussion and a brain injury, according to police.
The man was identified as a suspect through DNA. He reportedly left a surgical mask behind containing saliva that was matched to him and a crime lab, according to court records. His DNA was in a law enforcement database due to prior convictions for burglary, evading police, and gun possession.
Police arrested him a month ago in Pleasanton, according to jail records.
The charges were initially filed on Aug. 15, then upheld at a preliminary hearing two weeks later, court records show. The man remains at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, with bail set at $180,000.
