Kurvers Roster Thoughts, 2 Weeks Away, Reichel’s Offseason, ’26 Draft Dates, and Other Blackhawks Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Yesterday we finally got the Blackhawks’ roster for this weekend’s Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase games. I’m personally excited to keep an eye on a few guys who are participating other than the four I mentioned who already have NHL games on their hockey cards.

Nick Lardis and Marek Vanacker will skate. This won’t be the first time for Lardis, but Vanacker couldn’t participate last year because of the shoulder injury. I’m looking forward to see how Lardis plays against some legitimate pro players on the other two rosters.

I’m also interested to see Nathan Behm in these games. He’s a guy the Blackhawks got a little later than some thought he would come off the board in the draft his summer (third round, No. 66). Behm has some good size and playmaking ability.

Finally, one nice result of Jack Pridham opting to stay with Kitchener in the OHL this season and not moving on to Boston University is he’s available to participate in this year’s showcase as well. He had a terrific season in junior last year.

Nice resource here from Chris Peters at FloHockey with the master schedule for all of the prospect tournaments this week.

— Chris Peters (@chrismpeters) September 8, 2025 Ben Pope at the Chicago Sun-Times wrote about Lukas Reichel‘s approach to a make-or-break season. According to the story, Reichel threw out his usual summer workout plan and worked with three different skill trainers this summer to get better at winning battles and vision when carrying the puck. A good read.

Lukas Reichel hasn't been able to escape trade rumors this summer."Guys in Germany…come up to me and say, 'You’re going to go to Edmonton.'"Yet he remains on the Blackhawks. And he feels ready for his back-against-the-wall season.New story: t.co/ng49y6Hr1X

— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) September 7, 2025 We’re two weeks — 14 days! — away from the Blackhawks’ first preseason game in Detroit. Chris Johnston at The Athletic wrote about Macklin Celebrini’s shot at making Canada’s roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics. He noted that Celebrini — and Connor Bedard for that matter — were still incredibly young in 2014, the last time NHL players were in the Olympics. Johnston also reminded us that Sidney Crosby was left off the 2006 roster when he was 18; Canada doesn’t have a long history of bringing young NHL players to the Olympics. However, Johnston also reminds us that Drew Doughty was 20 and in his second NHL season when he got the invite in 2010. And Jonathan Toews — who was the best forward in the 2010 Games — was only 21. I just wanted to remind everyone that Toews was only 21 when he dominated the 2010 Olympics. Corey Pronman re-ranked the 2024 NHL draft class on Monday. I know, I know… Pronman isn’t as complimentary of Blackhawks prospects as some would like, and others view his personal perspective as confirmation of their doom-and-gloom view of the current Blackhawks front office’s approach to the draft. I will again simply note that this is one specific analyst’s perspective. He has Artyom Levshunov ranked sixth, with defensemen Zeev Buium (Minnesota) and Sam Dickinson (San Jose) ahead of him. Take it all with a grain of salt, folks. Just presenting the comments for your consideration as Blackhawks fans.

— Corey Pronman (@coreypronman) September 8, 2025 Vanacker and Parker Holmes might have an intriguing new teammate in Brantford this season. Scott Wheeler reported yesterday that Vladimir Dravecky, a right-handed defenseman who projects (at this point) as a potential late-first round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, is leaving the SHL for the OHL.

Sounds like Vladimir Dravecky, a top prospect for the 2026 NHL Draft, is going to be leaving Rogle to join the OHL’s Brantford Bulldogs. t.co/tnbrByJIrP

— Scott Wheeler (@scottcwheeler) September 8, 2025 Hey! We’ve got dates for the 2026 NHL Draft! It’s going to stay at the end of June — for now. Steve Mayer told the guys from The Fourth Period on NHL Network Radio on Sirius/XM yesterday that we can all circle June 26-27 for the next draft. Location still TBD.
