Bears' injury report: Uncertainty remains for Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

The Chicago Bears are set to kick off the regular season against the Minnesota Vikings Monday night, but will several key players be on the field?

The Bears have been dealing with injury issues in their secondary throughout the preseason, and Monday’s game sees two key players listed as questionable, as cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon are both uncertain to play in the contest.

Johnson suffered a groin injury during offseason workouts and didn’t participate in training camp for the Bears, and was a limited participant in the team’s final two practices before Monday’s game against the Vikings.

Gordon was a late addition to the injury report by the Bears on Sunday, as he was termed questionable with a hamstring injury.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter said he “wasn’t sure” if either player would suit up for the Bears in an interview on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday afternoon.

The Bears will in all likelihood be without linebacker TJ Edwards for Monday’s game, as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. His absence will put plenty of pressure on Tremaine Edmunds and Ruben Hyppolite in the middle of the Bears’ defense, with the Vikings’ potent offense posing a significant challenge.

Elsewhere, the Bears’ running back group is under the microscope, as Roschon Johnson remains questionable with a hamstring injury. He was a limited participant in Saturday’s practice, but if he can’t go, Bears fans can expect a heavy dose of D’Andre Swift and rookie Kyle Monangai in the opening game of the regular season.

Finally, special teamer and reserve cornerback Josh Blackwell is also questionable after being limited in Friday and Saturday’s practices with a groin injury.

For the Vikings, starting free safety Harrison Smith did not travel with the team and won’t play against the Bears on Monday night. Reserve defensive end Elijah Williams and running back Zavier Scott also won’t play in the game, while starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw was listed as questionable on the team’s final injury report.

We will update this story with new details as they emerge for both teams on Monday night.
