Mayor Todd Gloria has announced the winner of the annual “Mayor For a Day” contest: San Carlos eighth-grader Landry Lyn Schaub Gage.
Mayor-temp Gage was among 47 applicants in the contest, launched by Gloria in 2022, to foster and encourage leadership in young San Diegans.
Officials said Gage’s winning video conveyed her passion for “lowering the cost of housing in San Diego” and “protecting the environment.”
Gage is scheduled to deliver remarks to the San Diego City Council before heading to briefings. In addition, she will join officials at the Central Library and Fire Station 1, have lunch with Gloria and City Attorney Heather Ferbert, and tour San Diego Police Department headquarters.
A meeting with Councilmember Raul Campillo and a tour of the new Terminal 1 at the San Diego International Airport is also attached to the itinerary .
Past winners were third-grader Aiella Niles from Mira Mesa, fifth-grader Emma Smith from Tierrasanta, and ninth-grader Uma Onwuchekwa from Tierrasanta.
