Qatari medical aid arrives in Syria ...Syria

News by : (ُEnabbaladi) -

A Qatari aid plane carrying around 1,250 medical devices and equipment landed at Damascus International Airport on Sunday, September 7, delivered through the Qatar Red Crescent to strengthen Syria’s health sector.

The shipment included 450 ventilators, 25 advanced laboratory analysis and sample-preservation devices, 12 surgical units, 18 dialysis machines, and five ultrasound imaging systems. It also comprised two mobile incubators for newborns, 26 cardiac and tissue monitors, and 51 heating and warming systems, alongside other essential medical supplies.

90 tons in total

Syrian Health Minister Musab al-Ali stated that in the past three days, 18 trucks of medical aid had arrived from Qatar, in addition to Sunday’s flight, bringing the total to 90 tons of medicines and medical equipment.

He explained, in remarks to Syria’s state-run al-Ikhbariya TV, that the aid will be distributed to 50 hospitals across Syrian provinces.

“The assistance received is not sufficient to cover needs amid a shortage of equipment, but it will help close gaps and meet one of the Ministry’s key objectives: providing better services to those in need,” al-Ali said. He added that ensuring optimal healthcare requires adequate equipment, trained staff, and treatment protocols, with this convoy helping to address the equipment deficit and improve hospital performance.

Ambulances for Idlib

The World Health Organization (WHO) also announced on Sunday the delivery of five fully equipped ambulances, funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, to Idlib’s Health Directorate.

According to the WHO, the vehicles will support the referral network managed by the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations (UOSSM), to strengthen emergency response and patient transfers from primary healthcare centers to specialized hospitals. The organization emphasized that the step is part of its collaboration with the Health Ministry and other health-sector partners to ensure timely access to life-saving care.

Cancer treatment initiative

The Qatar Red Crescent recently launched the “Bridges of Healing and Hope 2” project to provide costly chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and hormonal medicines for cancer patients registered at oncology centers in northern Syria, for a period of five months.

The project, announced on August 10, is being implemented in coordination with WHO and the health directorates of Idlib and Aleppo.

It aims to directly benefit 112 cancer patients over five months, along with 560 indirect beneficiaries from patients’ families and the local community. The program covers the supply and monitoring of essential cancer drugs, ensuring their quality.

The Red Crescent said the initiative responds to the severe shortage of specialized healthcare in northern Syria, worsened by years of conflict and soaring drug prices beyond patients’ means. The project is expected to reduce mortality and complications among cancer patients while easing the burden on local facilities by lowering the need for treatment outside Syria.
