(KRON) – Two people were killed and several others were injured after a series of shootings in Oakland early Saturday morning, according to the Oakland Police Department.
OPD was alerted to a shooting in the 1900 block of Broadway at around 2:15 a.m. Police said paramedic personnel took the victim to a local hospital, where the victim is in critical condition.
Just after 3 a.m., OPD received a ShotSpotter activation in the 1700 block of San Pablo Avenue, and shortly after, the department received calls regarding a person shot. According to police, paramedics transported the victim to a hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead.
Less than 30 minutes after the ShotSpotter activation on San Pablo Avenue, the department received calls regarding a person shot near 19th Street and Martin Luther King Junior Way.

While Oakland police officers were in the area, they saw a person in the 500 block of 18th Street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The individual was taken to the hospital by paramedics, where they later died.
Around 3:45 p.m., OPD was notified that two people were privately taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. The victims are now in stable condition. Police said the victims were shot in the 1900 block of Martin King Luther Junior Way.
“Oakland experienced another major outburst of violence today. The Oakland Police Union is aware of two homicides and six additional victims of gun violence at this time," said the President of the Oakland Police Officers Association Huy Nguyen. "These incidents occurred within several blocks in the aftermath of First Friday festivities. Police report multiple armed groups engaged in a shootout and struck and wounded the first victim, an innocent bystander trying to buy food at a store at 2:20 a.m. in the 1900 block of Telegraph Avenue today."
The deceased victims’ identities are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
