The Chicago Bulls have finally shown some wiggle room in the Josh Giddey negotiations. News surfaced this week that the front office increased its initial offer to the 22-year-old point guard by $2.0 million annually. Whether or not that will be enough to move the needle, however, remains unclear. Giddey’s camp has been just as stubborn during these talks as the Bulls, and it’s been well documented that they expect to be far closer to the $30.0 million a year range.
The deadline for a decision to be made is coming up fast. Giddey is less than a month away from potentially seeing his qualifying offer expire, which would eliminate practically any leverage he has left in negotiations. With Brooklyn’s Cam Thomas finally biting the bullet and accepting his QO, it’s hard not to wonder if we could see the remaining restricted free agency follow in his footsteps.
© David Banks-Imagn Images Spotrac’s Keith Smith and I are on the same page. In response to the reports surrounding the Bulls’ latest offer, Smith suggested that settling around the $25.0 million would make sense for both parties. Would it be incredibly impressive if the Bulls got Giddey to sign a deal in the low 20s? Absolutely, but I don’t think adding on a few million to that number would make it a far worse contract. Giddey at a $25.0 million AAV would still feel like tremendous value when players like Jordan Poole, Jalen Suggs, and Immanuel Quickley are out there making $30.0 million. Even if he inked a contract for only three seasons, I would still consider this a rare win for the Bulls’ front office. Smith also brought up a good point – the fact that we’re even hearing some updated numbers for Giddey bodes well for a deal to get done. It’s been far harder to gauge how close Jonathan Kuminga and Quentin Grimes are with their respective organizations. The odds that those two will accept their QO certainly feel higher. At the same time, only time will truly tell what Giddey decides to do. With so many teams expected to have meaningful cap space next season, there is a case to make that this might be an offseason worth betting on yourself.Bulls are offering Josh Giddey $22M AAV. Giddey wants $30M AAV. Split the difference and go to $25-$26M AAV, right? Feels like this one is close enough that a deal will get signed. Not sure we're that close with Quentin Grimes or Jonathan Kuminga. QO feeling more and more likely.
— Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) September 5, 2025 Hall of Fame enshrinement weekend is here! Head coach Billy Donovan is set to join the legends of the game in Springfield, Massachusetts. The celebration will take place over the next two days, concluding with the official ceremony on Saturday night in Symphony Hall. Donovan will officially be honored by former Providence head coach and mentor Rick Pitino, as well as his former right-hand assistant, Mo Cheeks. The Chicago Bulls shared a roughly 10-minute look back at Donovan’s career, which features interviews with Pitino, Joakim Noah, Ayo Dosunmu, and more. Not only is it remarkably well-made, but it also does an excellent job of highlighting exactly why Donovan deserves a place among the game’s all-time coaches. He is such a respected figure in the basketball universe. The fun has already started for Donovan, and the Bulls shared some footage of him hanging out with fellow 2025 HOF class member Dwight Howard. Even though Donovan never served as Howard’s head coach, you can tell just how much the iconic big man admires him.Billy Donovan to Dwight Howard: “One of the best AAU teams I’ve ever seen was yours.” pic.twitter.com/8YmqJ4Tidg
— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) September 4, 2025 SBNation’s Ricky O’Donnell is making some good points! Most believe that Noa Essengue will begin his Bulls career in the G League, myself included. But that doesn’t mean it’s the right move! While I think a few games in Hoffman Estates could do him some good, I’ve long been a proponent of learning under fire. If the Bulls are truly focused on player development, giving Essengue a taste of NBA action sooner rather than later is the right call. Let him experience NBA-level physcality. Let him make mistakes. Let him get comfortable next to Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis. Does this mean Donovan can’t have a shot leash on the forward early on? Of course not. However, the only true way for an NBA player to grow is to go up against the best. Likewise, as O’Donnell noted, Essengue could actually help this team play the brand of basketball they started to establish last season! As raw as he is in several departments, Essengue is an excellent open-floor athlete. He and Buzelis running together in transition could be legitimately hard for teams to handle!I'm speed-running Noa Essengue rookie season takes from 'a redshirt year mostly in the G League is fine' to 'give him the last spot in the rotation' to 'start him!' all before camp begins. His 84% TS in transition is perfect for the Bulls' current style. Let's see what he can do.

A true superstar holds their franchise accountable. If the Chicago Sky Want to Join in on Angel Reese’s Success, They Must Listen The Bleacher Nation Fantasy fun continues! After giving away a free Saquon Barkley square on Thursday, we’re running it back with a free Patrick Mahomes square for tonight’s Brazil game. All you have to do his combine his over 0.5 passing yards with one more-or-less pick and you’ve got some extra $$. Personally, I like Justin Herbet to have more than 1.5 passing TDs. You can scroll through the many options here. The Cubs could be getting back one of their best arms at the perfect time! Jameson Taillon looked really good in his latest rehab start.
