Heading Back Home – Cubs vs Braves Series Preview ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

It wasn’t everything we hoped it would be, and it certainly had an odd shape to it, but a 5-4 West Coast trip is never a bad overall outcome. Kinda like our feelings on August as a whole. It was disappointing, without question, and there were rough performances along the way. But the end result? Hardly a disaster.

Now the Cubs come home on a quick turnaround – can’t not play on Labor Day – to host the Atlanta Braves for three games. Talk about a series that would’ve looked a lot different on paper back in March.

Note that today is roster expansion day, so the Cubs are going to be adding righty Aaron Civale and first baseman Carlos Santana to the active roster, and reportedly will also swap out outfielders Owen Caissie and Kevin Alcantara, preferring the latter’s fit on the bench going forward.

Cubs vs Braves – Pitching Probables:

Game 1: Monday, September 1 at 3:05 PM CT at Wrigley FieldBroadcast Info: Marquee Sports Network, 670 The Score

Cubs: Colin Rea, RHP Braves: Spencer Strider, RHP

Game 2: Tuesday, September 2 at 6:40 PM CT at Wrigley FieldBroadcast Info: Marquee Sports Network, 670 The Score

Cubs: Shōta Imanaga, LHP Braves: Joey Wentz, LHP

Game 3: Wednesday, September 3 at 6:40 PM CT at Wrigley FieldBroadcast Info: Marquee Sports Network, 670 The Score

Cubs: Cade Horton, RHP Braves: Bryce Elder, RHP

Thanks to his disappointing return from elbow surgery this year, Spencer Strider today does not give the Braves a match-up edge over Colin Rea by the results. Of course, it’s still Spencer Strider, so I’m hardly going to presume that Rea will outperform him.

And I won’t make assumptions on the rest of the series, either, but the Cubs do have the match-up advantage in those games, with each of Wentz and Elder having rough seasons, and each of Imanaga and Horton on a roll.
