After originally committing to the University of Wisconsin in January, Dillon Albertyn announced in May that he would be swimming and studying at Arizona State University beginning in the 2026-27 season. There, he will join his twin sister, Alyssa Albertyn, who also committed to the Sun Devils’ class of 2030. He wrote on social media:
“After a long consideration I have made the decision to verbally commit to Arizona State University. I would like to thank all the coaches at ASU for making this possible. I would also like to thank all my friends and family for supporting me in this decision. #twinsattempe #forksup ”
Dillon and Alyssa are one of two sets of boy-girl twins in the family. They were born in South Africa and moved to the United States with their parents 7 years ago. Albertyn told SwimSwam, “I started swimming at a very young age and quickly developed a passion for it. It became my main focus, even when I tried other sports. As a kid, I played rugby and dabbled in golf, but for body conditioning, my mom had us do gymnastics, which helped build strength and flexibility. My Dad was also the Captain of the South African National Volleyball Team back in his day.”
Albertyn is a rising senior at O’Fallon Township High School in O’Fallon, Illinois. He swims year-round with Seahawks Swim Club and specializes in sprint free and back. He had a big junior year, dropping time in every event he swam. He hit national standards in the 50 free (20.21) and 100 free (44.14) and Futures qualifying times in the 200 free (1:39.33), 100 back (49.36), and 200 IM (1:53.20). Most of those times came at Columbia Sectionals in March, where he won the 100 free and placed 3rd in the 50 free, 6th in the 200 free, 6th in the 100 back, and 8th in the 50 back. In July, he added PBs in the 50 breast (28.27) and 50 fly (23.38) at the 2025 Seahawks Summer Splash & 50 Free Shootout.
This summer, he wrapped up long course season with PBs in the 50 free (23.62), 100 free (52.46), 200 free (1:55.92), 50 back (27.12), 100 back (58.28), and 200 back (2:07.25) at Madison Futures, finaling in all 6 events.
Albertyn will join Brennan O’Neil, Caleb Kattau, Henry Lyness, Ian Disosway, Jack Culberson, London Rising, Onur Oksuz, and Tyler Porter in Tempe in the fall of 2026. He told SwimSwam, “I definitely like to use my height to my advantage, especially in the pool. When I’m not swimming , I enjoy playing pickle ball in the summer. I also love connecting with my swim friends across the country by playing video games together. Every now and then, I’ll pick up a good book and dive into that too.”
