Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Breaststroke and freestyle specialist Owen Beaudette, a native of Lakeville, Minnesota, has committed to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. He trains year-round with the South Metro Storm and attends Prior Lake High School.
He confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:
I am extremely grateful to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Wisconsin Green-Bay! I’d like to thank Coach Lewis and Coach Morgan for this amazing opportunity, as well as thank my coaches, teammates, and family for helping me along this journey. GO PHOENIX!
Beaudette’s two biggest meets of this past high school season were the MSHSL Section 2AA Championships in late February and the Class AA State Championships in early March. At the Section meet, he walked away with two bronze medals, posting a personal best of 21.30 in the 50 free and a season-best 58.08 in the 100 breast. He also contributed a 25.72 split on the breast leg of Prior Lake’s winning 200 medley relay and a 21.58 lead-off split on the runner-up 200 free relay.
At the State Championships less than two weeks later, Beaudette notched a lifetime-best 21.08 to take seventh in the 100 free and a huge best time of 56.59 for third in the 100 breast. He also contributed to the winning 200 medley relay with a 25.38 breast split. Additionally, he led off with a 21.21 split to help his team secure silver in the 200 free relay.
Beaudette wrapped up his season at the Minnesota Short Course Championships a week after State, where he took on a schedule of six individual events. His highest finish came in the 50 free, where he clocked two best times, 21.06 in prelims before hitting the wall in 21.03 for fifth in the final. He also touched 6th in the 100 breast (57.84), while securing career bests of 46.94 in the 100 free (9th), 2:09.40 in the 200 breast (9th), 53.05 for 16th in the 100 fly after logging a lifetime-best 51.95 in prelims, and 53.74 for eighth in the 100 IM after hitting a 52.73 best time in prelims.
Beyond the individual races, he split 20.49 and 45.32 on South Metro Storm’s golden 200 and 400 free relays, 25.35 and 57.06 on the breast leg of the winning 200 and 400 medley relays, and 1:46.00 on the 4th-place 800 free relay.

He was able to hire a full-time assistant coach and a graduate assistant last season; in the first three years of his tenure as head coach, it was just him and a diving coach.
The UWGB men took sixth out of seven teams at last year’s Horizon League Championships. A year prior, they finished last in the conference.
The conference meet scores ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals, and Beaudette’s best time in the 100 breast would have squeaked him into the ‘B’ final last season. It took 56.59 to make it into that final, which matches his PB down to the hundredth. Outside of his primary event, it took times of 20.56, 45.17, and 2:03.63 to advance in the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 breast, respectively.
According to the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Beaudette’s 100 breast would have ranked third on the team, while his 50 free would have situated him fourth and his 100 free fifth. In terms of the 200 breast, his fastest-ever result would have sat eighth on the team standings.
Junior Max Kasal led the Phoenix in both the 50 free (19.92) and 100 free (43.78), while junior Eli Zimmerman led the way in the 100 breast (55.62) and graduate student Sebastian Smolecki was the top 200 breast performer (2:00.33).
Beaudette joins Will Redetzke and Grady Evenson in UWGB’s 2030 recruiting class.
The swimmers will arrive on a campus that has recently made several upgrades to its aquatic center, including a new $65,000 video board. The facelift at the pool comes amid other positive momentum for the NCAA Division I program, which included the reinstatement of athletic scholarships for the 2024-2025 season, four years after they were eliminated in a budget measure.
