Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Versatile sprinter Grady Evenson, a native of Lakeville, Minnesota, has committed to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. He trains year-round with the Aquajets Swim Team and attends Lakeville South High School.
He confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:
I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career swimming at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay!! Huge thanks to all my family, friends, and coaches that helped me get this far. All Glory to God. Go Phoenix!!
Evenson’s two biggest meets of this past high school season were the MSHSL Section 1AA Championships in late February and the Class AA State Championships in early March. At the Section meet, he walked away with gold in the 100 back, clocking 51.13 for a personal best time. He touched the wall third in the 100 fly, going a season-best 51.77.
At the state championships less than two weeks later, Evenson notched a lifetime-best 51.03 to take 6th in the 100 back and a season-best 50.96 for 10th in the 100 fly. He also contributed to the 13th place 200 medley relay with a 22.16 split on the fly leg.
At the NCSA Spring Championship less than two weeks later, Evenson recorded 24.15 for 45th in the 50 back, 53.89 for 180th in the 100 back, 23.33 in the 50 fly, 53.37 for 221st in the 100 fly, 27.84 for 117th in the 50 breast, and 48.74 for 216th in the 100 free.
While most of his success came in the 100 back last season, his best event on paper is clearly the 100 fly. He’s broken the 50-second threshold on two occasions, both at the 2024 Class AA state meet. He recorded 49.81 in prelims and 49.28 for bronze at that meet.

100 Butterfly: 49.28 200 Butterfly: 1:56.53 100 Backstroke: 51.03 100 Breaststroke: 59.43 100 Freestyle: 46.94 200 IM: 1:55.57Alex Lewis took the helm of the UWGB program in November 2021. He was able to hire a full-time assistant coach and a graduate assistant last season; in the first three years of his tenure as head coach, it was just him and a diving coach.
The UWGB men took sixth out of seven teams at last year’s Horizon League Championships. A year prior, they finished last in the conference.
The conference meet scores ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals, and Evenson’s best time in the 100 fly would have squeaked him into the ‘B’ final last season. It took 49.15 to make it into that final, while 50.65 and 45.17 made the top 16 in the 100 back and 100 free, respectively. Beyond the sprints, times of 1:55.46 and 1:51.40 were needed to advance in the 200 fly and 200 IM.
According to the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Evenson’s 100 fly would have ranked second on the team, while his 100 back, 200 IM, and 200 fly times would have been fourth. His 100 free PB would have been the fifth-quickest on the roster.
Junior Max Kasal led the Phoenix in both the 100 fly (49.08) and 100 free (43.78), while the freshmen duo of Jerett Maalis (48.36) and Zacha King (48.74) were both under 50 in the 100 back.
Evenson joins Will Redetzke and Owen Beaudettein UWGB’s 2030 recruiting class.
The swimmers will arrive on a campus that has recently made several upgrades to its aquatic center, including a new $65,000 video board. The facelift at the pool comes amid other positive momentum for the NCAA Division I program, which included the reinstatement of athletic scholarships for the 2024-2025 season, four years after they were eliminated in a budget measure.
