Auburn’s team chaplain for the past 26 seasons, Rev. Chette Williams, passed away in an accident at Lake Martin during the college football season last year, and the team plans to honor him this year by wearing a decal with the letters BCW on it, the team recently announced.
The decal is located underneath the SEC logo and above the war eagle on the back of the helmet. BCW stands for Brother Chette Williams, a name Auburn says he was known affectionately as. Williams has served as Auburn football’s team chaplain since 1999, and he completed his 26th season in 2024. Williams was 61 at the time of his passing.
Williams was a former Auburn linebacker from 1982 to 1984, where he helped the Tigers win 3 bowl games. One of which was the 1984 Sugar Bowl. Williams is also an author of two books, “Hard Fighting Soldier: Finding God in Trials, Tragedies, and Triumphs” and “The Broken Road: Finding God’s Strength and Grace on a Journey of Faith.” Williams was not only Auburn football’s chaplain, but he was also the Auburn campus director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
