LAKE FOREST – Dominant in many ways but imperfect in many others, Tesoro’s football team ran away from El Toro on Friday.

Visiting Tesoro pulled in three interceptions and Nic Brubaker capitalized on a goal-line pick with a 95-yard touchdown run, as the Titans outmuscled the Chargers, 24-14, in a season opener between former Coast View Conference rivals at El Toro High.

“It looked like an old-school Tesoro football program from 15 years ago,” Tesoro coach and alum Mike Zangl said. “Ground and pound to set up the pass. Offensive line did an awesome job tonight.”

Tesoro senior quarterback Vaughn Steinert dropped in two 20-yard touchdown passes to Brayden White and Owen Stirrat in the first half, as Tesoro bowled over El Toro in offensive yards, 228-23, and first downs, 14-2, in the opening 24 minutes.

Steinert completed 13 of 22 passes for 130 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Senior receiver Braiden Vaca led the way with nine catches for 68 yards.
