South Carolina defensive line coach Travian Robertson is in the hospital after being involved in a serious car accident on Friday morning, per a report.
That news comes from The State’s Jordan Kaye, who reports Robertson is in a trauma ICU room at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Specific details regarding the crash are not yet known.
Kaye’s report says South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer responded to a text message about Robertson and said “He’s doing OK.”
In addition to coaching for the Gamecocks, Robertson was a key defensive lineman for the program as a player from 2007-11. Robertson was ultimately a 7th-round draft pick and played for multiple NFL teams during his pro career. He began his coaching journey as a graduate assistant at Georgia State in 2017.
He joined South Carolina’s staff in 2023, so this upcoming campaign is slated to be his 5th on Beamer’s staff. South Carolina’s defensive line has been a strength of the program over the past couple of seasons and is expected to be so again in 2025.
At this time, it’s unclear if Robertson’s injuries will keep him away from the team for any length of time. South Carolina opens the 2025 season with Virginia Tech on Sunday, Aug. 31.
