Reigning champions Bayern Munich got off to a sensational start to the 2025-26 Bundesliga campaign with a 6-0 win over RB Leipzig at Allianz Arena.
A brace from Michael Olise either side of a debut goal for Luis Díaz saw Bayern storm into a 3-0 lead after 42 minutes, before another Harry Kane hat-trick – his ninth for the club already – completed the rout in the second half.
For England captain Kane, his treble took his Bundesliga tally to a ridiculous 66 goals in 64 appearances since signing for the club from Tottenham in the summer of 2023. Olise’s two goals meant that he scored for a fifth consecutive Bundesliga appearance, while he’s totalled six goals and eight assists across his last nine games in the competition for Bayern.
It was also a memorable debut for Díaz, signed just weeks ago from Premier League champions Liverpool. Not only did he score with a brilliant finish in the first half, he assisted two of Kane’s goals after half-time.
This was the 24th consecutive Bundesliga season that the reigning champions have been unbeaten on the opening day (W19 D5) – not since Bayern’s 1-0 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2001 has one lost on Matchday 1.
One other noteworthy statistic in the win came with Manuel Neuer starting in goal for Bayern, meaning it’s the 20th different Bundesliga season that he’s appeared in. The only player to have played across more Bundesliga seasons is Klaus Fichtel (22).
