“But I’ll never get sick of signing them. I’ve waited 17 years to sign that flag in the middle, and I will never complain about doing it,” he added.

But while McIlroy may wear out his pen signing flags, he hasn’t been wearing the iconic green jacket as much as he expected.
“I’m reluctant to wear it,” he said. “It’s not as if I wear it a lot. I have it hanging in my wardrobe in a place where I can see it every day.”
The green jacket is awarded each year to the Masters winner, who gets to keep it for a year before returning it to the clubhouse at Augusta National Golf Club. The jacket remains the winner’s property, but they may only remove the jacket from the clubhouse if they are the reigning champion.

“I always thought if I had one — if I did win the Masters one day — I’d never have the thing off,” McIlroy added, “and it hasn’t been that way. I haven’t worn it as much as I thought I would.”
McIlroy said he wore the jacket all night the day of his Masters win, finally taking it off around 3:30 a.m. Since then, he has only donned it on rare occasions, including for the Association of Golf Writers’ dinner at the British Open. Otherwise, the jacket remains draped over a chair in his home where he can see it every day.
Still, he is looking forward to visiting Augusta in the future, where he will be able to take the jacket out of the clubhouse and put it on.
“It’ll be lovely to next time go there and go up to the champions locker room and put on my green jacket and feel like I belong,” he said.
