THE NFL’s heaviest player has been given a special weight loss program in order to get back on the field.

There is no timetable for when the rookie NFL player will be allowed to play with his squad.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed defensive tackle Desmond Watson as an undrafted free agent, which would instantly be historic.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 464 pounds, Watson became the heaviest player in NFL history.

However, the 22-year-old has failed to lose weight to the chagrin of the team.

As a result, Watson has been on the non-football injury list while he works on getting his weight down.

While it is not known how much more weight the Bucs want him to lose, the young defensive lineman has been tasked with activities during practices.

Recently, Watson was seen walking laps around the practice field.

He’s also been seen spectating his fellow defensive linemen teammates going through drills as he’s unable to participate.

Watson has been working with a team nutritionist to help him get down to a playing weight.

Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles spoke about Watson’s situation after he was placed on the NFI list.

“It’s just about trying to get him better, to be a healthier player and getting him on the field a little more,” he said.

“That’s kind of where I’m at right now.

“He’s working at it and we’re working with him and that’s all you can ask right now.

“I don’t have a timetable on what we can get him down to or when that comes.

“He’s from Armwood, he went to Florida, so he’s used to the heat. That’s not a big factor in it.
