A major shoutout to all the folks who attended last night’s BN Watch Party at Lottie’s! While I only got to drop by briefly before the event started (I went to the Cubs game as the good luck charm), it was awesome to see so many people already lined up and ready to have a great night.
Maybe one day the Bulls will stop sucking, and we could do one of these during basketball season! A boy can dream!
(Hour 1,217 of Josh Giddey Watch …)
If the Josh Giddey negotiations have gotten any closer, it sure would be nice if someone let us know. Things appear to remain in a holding pattern, as most updates suggest that there is a wide gap between what the Bulls are offering and what Giddey’s camp expects. K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network did take some time to discuss the situation on the latest episode of The Fastbreak, but all he did was reiterate where the Bulls stand. The long-time insider shared that the organization has a long-term offer in the range of $20.0 million a year on the table. While Giddey’s representatives have likely accepted the fact that the $30.0 million they covet isn’t coming their way, I have a hard time believing they will shake hands on Chicago’s current offer. Nevertheless, Johnson stated that he is still expecting a multi-year agreement to be signed between the two sides. However, I can’t help but wonder what this is going to do for the overall vibes around the team. The last thing the Bulls want is Giddey coming back into the building frustrated, especially after he ended the 2024-25 season on such a strong note. While most players will deem these talks nothing more than the “business of basketball,” it’s impossible for emotions not to come into play. Heck, Johnson even shared that voluntary team workouts are expected to begin again soon for the Bulls. Will Giddey show up if a deal isn’t signed? If not, could this only raise tensions higher?“The Bulls do have a long-term offer on the table… believed to be in the neighborhood of $20 million/year.”On the latest episode of The Fastbreak, @KCJHoop dives into the Bulls’ contract negotiations with Josh Giddey ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/zQjLZw1c78
— Bulls on CHSN (@CHSN_Bulls) August 19, 2025 The Athletic’s David Aldridge released his annual offseason rankings for the NBA. His list is meant to focus heavily on whether or not a team is better than they were in the previous season. All things considered, the Bulls could have ranked lower. Aldridge put the franchise at No. 18 overall, praising them slightly for their more “methodical” approach of focusing on young talent. Still, he emphasized that being even more deliberate with their decisions is pivotal moving forward: “But at some point, Chicago is going to have to be more intentional in making bigger moves that can get it out of Play-In round hell. Unless it’s cool staying in Play-In round hell.” For what it’s worth, I do think the Bulls are in a better place as an organization than they were last offseason. Matas Buzelis showed flashes of being a real piece to build around, while moving off Zach LaVine’s contract opened up an immense amount of future flexibility. I also think that re-signing Tre Jones and adding a defender like Isaac Okoro can legitimately help this team look more competitive at times on the court. Making the Play-In with THIS roster would be different than making the Play-In with the previous teams. I think that context matters. At the same time, as Aldridge alludes to, you’re only as good as your record shows. The Bulls have to find a way to get out of this cycle sooner rather than later. Angel Reese suited up for the first time this month. While the Sky’s struggles continued with a 94-88 loss to the Storm, it was a far more competitive effort.
