CHARLOTTE (PINPOINT WEATHER) -- As Hurricane Erin churns just off the North Carolina coast, Governor Josh Stein will join emergency officials Wednesday morning to give an update.
The briefing is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. at the State Emergency Operations Center in Raleigh.
Gov. Stein declared a State of Emergency on Tuesday to help move resources to coastal communities ahead of the storm. Local emergencies and mandatory evacuations are already in effect for Ocracoke and Hatteras islands, with shelter available for evacuees and pets.

Erin remains a Category 2 hurricane on Wednesday morning and is expected to grow in size and strength over the next 48 hours as it moves north. The Outer Banks are already feeling early impacts, including rip currents, 15 to 20-foot waves, and the risk of flooding.

Inland areas like Charlotte will see warm, humid conditions on Wednesday, with pop-up showers possible this afternoon.
Highs are expected in the upper 80s, with rain chances increasing into the weekend.
