If you have hooded eyelids, lining the tops of your eyelashes can emphasize the hood, so tightlining, or moving the liner down into the lashes and waterline, can free up more lid space.
Kat James, a professional makeup artist, says "the beauty of this technique, especially if you're a more mature woman, is you're not ... applying liner on crepey lids."
Tightlining Tips
Use a magnification mirror and look down into it to avoid poking your eye, says professional makeup artist Michelle Spieler.Use a waterproof pencil with a thin, soft tip, says Erica Taylor. This is a very sensitive area, so you don't want a hard and pointy pencil that can pull and cause the eyes to water. If you get really good at the technique, you could also do it with a waterproof gel liner and a brush, but that method is a bit more advanced.Consider using a brown or plum shade instead of black. Black can emphasize drooping and be less forgiving if you make mistakes. But if black is flattering on you, then go for it!Curl your lashes before tightlining if you're having trouble finding the line where your lashes and eyelid meet.
