The countdown can officially begin! We are 68 days away from the start of another Chicago Bulls season. With the full NBA schedule released on Thursday afternoon, we now know that the 2025-26 campaign will begin at the United Center on Oct. 22 against an improving division rival.
The Detroit Pistons are fresh off their first playoff appearance in six years. Cade Cunningham is turning into the superstar the organization expected him to be when selecting him No. 1 overall. Add in a supporting case of youngsters like Ausar Thompson, Jalen Duren, Ron Holland, and Jaden Ivery, and this is the kind of franchise that represents precisely who the Bulls hope to be in a handful of years.
While this may not be as challenging a home opener as the Bulls have faced over the past few years (having played OKC twice and CLE), it will still be quite the initial test for this developing roster. And the test will not stop there!

We will learn rather quickly if the version of the Chicago Bulls we saw end of the 2024-25 season was nothing more than a mirage. It’s not an exaggeration to say that this group could lose nine of its first 11 games. The easiest matchups they have on the calendar over the first couple of weeks will come against Sacramento and Philadelphia. And, heck, the latter game could still prove pretty difficult if Joel Embiid takes the floor. The good news is that the schedule will lighten up significantly as we pass the mid-way mark in November, but the vibes could already be pretty low by then. Conversely, if this young Bulls team is hanging around .500 come Nov. 12, it will be hard not to feel decently optimistic. This will likely mean that both Josh Giddey and Coby White have continued to look like the backcourt of the future, while Matas Buzelis has shown the steps we all hope to see to begin his sophomore campaign. Look, I know it’s a long season, but this early schedule is going to tell us a lot about how difficult a year this really could be for the organization. Arturas Karnisovas has harped on re-establishing a home-court advantage. Well, this could be the perfect schedule to do so! Not only will the Bulls start the season with four of their first five at the United Center, but December will see a massive home stretch. The Bulls will end the month with six straight at home. Overall, between Dec. 2 and Jan. 3, 2026, the Bulls will play 10 of their currently scheduled 13 games in front of their fans. I say “currently scheduled” because there will be at least two additional matchups put on the calendar for the NBA Cup this month. Even if these two end up a plane ride away, that is still quite a generous month by the schedule makers. They will also go on to have a seven-game homestand later in February! Speaking of the generosity, the Bulls should also be happy to see a limited number of back-to-back sets. They are currently scheduled for 13, which Positive Residual has tied for the lowest amount in the league. Chicago shares this title with Atlanta, Boston, Indiana, Minnesota, and OKC. The highest number of B2Bs currently scheduled for a team is 16. The Bulls also happen to join only two teams in having the fewest rest disadvantages – aka when you go into a game with fewer days off than your opponent. They tie Cleveland and Milwaukee with having only six games at a rest disadvantage. I’m sure that makes Billy Donovan and the medical staff happy campers! Billy Donovan of the Chicago Bulls – © David Richard-Imagn Images The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie has released his first re-draft of the 2024 NBA Draft, and Bulls fans should take notice. Matas Buzelis has jumped from the No. 11 spot to the No. 6 spot, surpassing early picks like Alex Sarr, Ron Holland, Zach Edey, and Cody Williams. Here is a little of what Vecenie had to say …“I’m not quite as high as some on his upside, as I’m skeptical of his half-court shot-creation ability because of his high hips and inability to gain leverage with his lack of strength. But I buy Buzelis as likely a solid starting caliber wing because of his size, athleticism in the open court and shooting ability,” Vecenie wrote for The Athletic.
A re-draft after ONE season is always tricky. We still need to see so much more from Matas Buzelis to feel confident that he can become a foundational piece for this organization. However, the six-foot-ten forward felt like a steal in the late-lottery when it happened, and there is no denying that he looked the part as his rookie season went on. There is a very real world where he continues to pass other members of his draft class this season, especially as the Bulls make him an increasingly important part of their game plan. Remember, the goal is to have the ball in Buzelis’ hands a lot more this season. As NBA University kindly mapped out, the Chicago Bulls currently have the third-lowest over-under projection in the NBA.
