PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Training camp has ended and the Buffalo Bills have completed their first preseason game. With less than a month until the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, excitement is building.
DaQuan Jones, a key player in the Bills defense, is entering his 12th year in the NFL. “I mean, I’ve been telling people I have no complaints for going in year 12, and I’m as healthy that I can be. And, I just feel really good,” Jones said.
His teammates have noticed his performance on the field. “I didn’t think I’d see an older guy like that moving like that. Honestly, I think he’s in year 12, and just him getting out the ball, just him rushing, it kind of caught me off guard,” said rookie TJ Sanders.
Jones, who will turn 34 in December, played seven years with the Titans, one with the Panthers, and the last three in Buffalo. “The culture that, Sean [McDermott] and [Brandon] Beane have built here, it’s going to be a long-lasting legacy,” Jones said.
Throughout his 11 regular seasons in the league, Jones has started in 149 games, accumulating 350 tackles. “You’re always growing. Either growing or you’re dying,” Jones said.
Defensive Coordinator Bobby Babich praised Jones’s leadership. “Been great. He operates as a pro and not only verbally, but by example, right? How a pro handles things and that’s as important as anything,” Babich said.
Jones takes pride in his longevity in the league. “It’s not common. It’s hard to do and 12 years at D-tackle, I mean, not a lot of guys do it. And I think just you know, continue to count my blessings” Jones said.
Jones, an Upstate New York native, was raised in Johnson City, a suburb outside of Binghamton.
