Spencer Pfaff, a US Open Qualifier in the men’s 50 freestyle, will be headed to Division III Grinnell College for the fall of 2025.

Pfaff attended Rockbridge County High School in Lexington, Virginia where he was the valedictorian of his high school class. He joins his two older sisters as college swimmers. His oldest sister Isabel Pfaff also swam Division III at Oberlin College, graduating earlier this year, and his middle sister Ali Pfaff swims at Duke where she holds the school records in the 100 and 200 backstroke events.
Spencer Pfaff is a sprint freestyle and butterfly specialist. He recently swam at the Virginia Senior Championships in July, which is where he earned his US Open Qualifying time in the men’s 50 freestyle, touching in 23.15 in the finals to finish 3rd overall. At the same meet, he swam the 100 butterfly, where he swam a new personal best 56.50 to finish 9th.
He has seen rapid improvement this year, dropping half-a-second in his 50 freestyle and a full second in the 100 free. He had never swum the long course 100 butterfly before this season.

This was their 9th consecutive conference title.
Pfaff is a strong addition to their program, with his short course times coming in 1st on the team in the 50 free, 2nd in the 100 fly, and 7th in the 100 free. Those times also came well before his drops this long course, which gives him the potential for some major drops again this short course.
On top of being a relay contender, his 50 freestyle time would have won the Midwest Conference Championships, and put him just four tenths away from an NCAA invite in the event.
