4 questions as British man accused of ‘affair with daughter-in-law he tried to drown’ ...Middle East

News by : (inews) -

A family source told the Daily Mail that Mark Gibbon, 62, of Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, had been in a romantic relationship with hairdresser Jasmine Wyld, 33, for the past two years, and the pair regularly went on family holidays together.

Mr Gibbon, a lighting supplier to the film and TV industry and who is divorced from Alex’s mother, was on holiday near Disney World in Florida with Ms Wyld and her children.

According to Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Mr Gibbon had “shoved” Ms Wyld’s head under the water. His nine-year-old granddaughter jumped in to stop him, and he pushed her away.

Mr Gibbon allegedly only stopped the attempted drowning when two neighbouring sisters said that they had called the Sheriff’s Office.

What do we know about Mark Gibbon?

Mr Gibbon is understood to have told police he had been drinking and admitted to pushing his daughter-in-law under the water, but denied trying to drown her.

Grady Judd, the sheriff of Polk County, said: “Because Mr Gibbon couldn’t control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.”

When questioned by Florida police, both Gibbon and Wyld denied being a couple. Polk County Sheriff’s Office told The Sun that a detective had asked them “about their relationship to determine if the incident would be classified as domestic violence”.

The source said: “Mark and Jasmine have been seeing each other for a few years, but they’ve never admitted it. Alex and his dad don’t speak at all. There have been a number of issues within the family. He feels an awful betrayal at how his dad has struck up a relationship with the mother of his two children.

“She is always round at his house. She has a place of her own, but she’s nearly always in Beaconsfield with Mark.

“I don’t know for sure what happened on this holiday and why Mark has apparently tried to drown her. But I have been told that Jasmine was unhappy that they have been in a relationship for a few years, and she is not named in his will.”

Where is Alex Gibbon now?

Ms Wyld and Alex separated in 2021. Alex had worked with his father and was a director of their lighting company, Ultralight UK Limited, from 2019 until he left in 2023. That same year, he ran his father over in an £80,000 Porsche following a public argument.

Alex was released from prison six months ago and moved in with his mother, who had divorced Mr Gibbon several years prior.

“Alex shouted to him to ‘get out the way’, but Mark continued to obstruct him and was hit by the car as a result.”

Mr Gibbon remains in custody in Florida until his hearing in September.
