REPORT: Teams Have Shown Interest in Josh Giddey Sign-and-Trade, Including Warriors ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

As free agent negotiations between the Chicago Bulls and Josh Giddey remain at a standstill, the rumors are starting to swirl.

The two sides have had over a month to discuss a new deal for the restricted free agent guard. Instead, conversations have failed to progress in a meaningful way, with multiple recent reports sharing that they remain roughly $10.0 million apart in discussions. While most signs have still pointed toward a deal eventually getting done between the two parties, insider Jake Fischer has shared that other teams have tried to get involved.

During a Bleacher Report livestream on Thursday, Fischer reported that a handful of teams have contacted Giddey’s camp to express interest in the 22-year-old. More specifically, one Western Conference team has thought about a player swap.

“Josh Giddey is someone who is certainly flirting with and threatening the idea of taking the qualifying offer himself … I can report, I can’t name more teams than I would like to, but I can report that there have been multiple teams who have reached out to Josh Giddey’s representatives about having interest in Josh Giddey. Golden State is one of them. Golden State would be interested, depending on how the machinations would go, in some type of Josh Giddey-Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade, to my understanding.”

So … that’s juicy!

Teams Open to Josh Giddey Sign-and-Trade With Bulls

On the one hand, Fischer’s report shouldn’t feel all that shocking. Josh Giddey is one of the top facilitators in the league with excellent positional size and plenty of room to grow. He also ended the season playing some of the best basketball of his career, showing real growth as a downhill scoring threat. Why wouldn’t a few teams call to see if they can pry him away from Chicago?

On the other hand, the lack of any real progress in the Giddey negotiations has suggested that there has been minimal interest in the guard across the league. The Athletic even surveyed 16 different front office faces who said they would not pay Giddey the money he wants. Typically, these sign-and-trade scenarios only happen IF a team is willing to meet an asking price. Perhaps a handful of the 14 teams that were not surveyed fit the bill, but you would have expected a little more buzz at this point under those circumstances.

So might this be Giddey’s representatives trying to put a little extra pressure on the Bulls? It’s possible. Not only could Arturas Karnisovas become worried that Giddey’s camp might try to force a sign-and-trade to an interested team, but the Bulls could become that much more concerned about him taking the qualifying offer. If there is this much interest now, why wouldn’t there be one summer later when he is an unrestricted free agent and more teams have money to spend?

Nevertheless, for those who are curious about a sign-and-trade, Fischer did go on to say that they are not very optimistic about getting a deal done. The Bulls have shown little desire to go down that road thus far, and we all know how difficult they have been to work with in the past. Even if we consider the specific rumors that once suggested the Bulls were interested in Jonathan Kuminga, I find it hard to believe they would pursue a sign-and-trade that included Giddey.

I suppose if the relationship was completely tarnished, there are worse moves to make. The Bulls would at least add a player who still fits their youth movement. However, adding Kuminga makes practically no sense if you do not have Giddey to distribute the ball and run the offense. This is especially true when we consider they are already attempting to develop two athletic wings with shooting concerns, Matas Buzelis and Noa Essengue.

Sure, Kuminga is a very different player than both of those two on paper, but there is little doubt that investing in him could get in the way of the development of Buzelis and Essengue. A player like Giddey should only help their development.

I continue to believe that Giddey and the Bulls reunite for the 2025-26 season – even with this latest update. However, Fischer’s latest report highlights what can happen the longer these negotiations go on. Things can always get messy, and other teams could try to take advantage. As much as the Bulls deserve credit for holding out for the right deal all this time, navigating the emotions and outside noise will become that much harder as things drag on.
