For the last six weeks, the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) have been running camps to keep players fit.

They host training sessions and fixtures to showcase the available talent, allowing clubs to contact them with any interest.

A huge amount of quality has been on show, and for the latest week of action, that certainly hasn’t changed.

Morrison, who most recently played for Precision FC in the UAE, is one of the former stars taking part this week.

The 32-year-old was once tipped for the top after coming through the ranks at Man United, but he failed to live up to his potential.

Throughout his career, which was plagued with off-field issues and injuries, he’s played for a total of 14 clubs including West Ham, Birmingham, QPR and Derby County.

Morrison is now currently without a club and appears to be looking for a new venture as part of the PFA summer camp.

Joining him in the squad are ex-Newcastle winger Rolando Aarons and former Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman.

Patrick Bauer, Cyrus Christie, Anthony Forde, Hakeeb Adelakun, Chris Maguire, Adam Reach and Ryan Tunnicliffe are just a few of the names that will be familiar to fans of the EFL too.

But it’s Morrison who stands out as a well-known name that could potentially be snapped up by a club for the upcoming season.

Trent’s toughest opponent

Morrison and co. are joined in the latest PFA squad by former Manchester City starlet Brandon Barker.

Barker is a name that many football fans could be familiar with, and Trent Alexander-Arnold definitely remembers him well.

The ex-City academy product was seen as one of the best up-and-coming English talents in the game a decade ago.

He won the club’s Academy Players’ Player of the Year in 2013/14.

And Alexander-Arnold once labelled him as the best player he’d ever come up against during an interview in 2023.

The England right-back, who joined Real Madrid from Liverpool this summer, admitted he was ‘destroyed’ by Barker with the U21s.

On Barker, Alexander-Arnold said: “I was 18, playing for the Under-21s, first ever time at Anfield, got beat 3-0. He scored two and got an assist. I came off at 60 [minutes].

“Still to this day, he’s the opponent I think that just destroyed me, man. I’ve never had it like that before.

“At that point, I’m thinking, ‘this kid is going to be the best player in the world’. Because I’d never seen someone move so quickly and sharp and effectively.”

Both players’ career trajectories couldn’t have gone much differently since that game though, with Alexander-Arnold thriving.

Barker has never managed to get his career off the ground, leaving Man City in 2019 and playing for six different clubs since.

He most recently featured for Northern Premier League side Avro FC after leaving Morecambe at the end of last season.
