Eaton fire-displaced students now eligible to apply for 2026 Rose Court ...Middle East

News by : (Los Angeles Daily News) -

Students displaced by the Eaton fire can still apply to be part of the 2026 Rose Court, the Tournament of Roses announced Friday, Aug. 1.

The tournament announced the modification to eligibility on the day the application period for the Rose Court opened.

Each year, following a rigorous selection process, seven members of the court ride down Colorado Boulevard as part of the Rose Parade and attend the Rose Bowl game later that day.

“We are excited to continue the treasured legacy of the Rose Court, a legacy that has inspired itsmembers to connect with their communities, give back in meaningful ways, and grow in self confidence from valuable experiences,” a tournament release read.

Applicant eligibility is determined by the Pasadena Community College District map along with seven additional zip codes that include Eagle Rock, Highland Park, San Gabriel and Alhambra.

This year, applicants who were displaced by the Eaton fire and do not currently live within the geographic boundaries are able to apply. However, the applicant must attend a school that is within the eligible area, according to the tournament.

“We want to make sure everybody has an opportunity to experience the Rose Court interview process,” tournament spokesperson Candy Carlson said.

Less than a week after the 136th Rose Parade, the Eaton fire destroyed much of Altadena along with parts of Pasadena and Sierra Madre. At least 19 people died in a blaze that burned more than 14,000 acres and destroyed about 9,400 structures.

About a month after the fire, the Tournament of Roses announced that its theme for the 137th parade would be “The Magic in Teamwork,” a nod to community uniting in response to the devastation and loss.

The tournament said it looks for applicants with diverse strengths that can include natural public speakers, youth leaders, academic achievement and community involvement.

“The selected Rose Court members will provide a well-rounded group who serve as ambassadors of the Tournament of Roses, the Pasadena community and the greater Los Angeles area,” a tournament news release read.

Each Rose Court member receives a $7,500 educational scholarship.

To apply, visit tournamentofroses.com. The first round of interviews will take place on Sept. 6 and Sept. 8. The Rose Court announcement is scheduled for Sept. 29 and the announcement of the 2026 Rose Queen – selected from within the already chosen Court — is slated for Oct. 28.
