As Florida begins fall camp, the health of starting quarterback DJ Lagway has once again come into question.
Reports surfaced on Monday that Lagway has been dealing with some sort of a lower-body injury and was seen in a walking boot. On Tuesday afternoon, head coach Billy Napier addressed Lagway’s health.
Napier told reporters that Lagway is considered “day-to-day” but will be limited to start training camp.
Billy Napier says QB DJ Lagway will be limited as the Gators start preseason camp. He's day to day, as are we all
— Matt Baker (@MattBakerCFB) July 29, 2025The good news for Florida fans is this ailment appears to be minor and not a longterm concern. Lagway has the potential to be one of the SEC’s best passers in 2025 if he can stay healthy. He was excellent as a true freshman last year for the Gators as he led Florida to the postseason.
However, this is the latest in a growing list of injuries Lagway has dealt with since arriving in Gainesville. He famously played through a hamstring injury in 2024 and was limited during spring practice due to shoulder issues as well as a hernia. His durability has been a big question entering his second season with the Gators.
This is a pivotal year for Napier, who is once again on the hot seat as Florida looks to make it to the College Football Playoff for the first time ever.
Florida will begin the 2025 season against LIU on Aug. 30.
