He said this is possible due to the money that the country is taking in through his tariff policies.
Answering a reporter’s question about the plausibility of a tariff rebate, Trump outlined his aims for the economy going forward.
He also hinted at the kinds of things his government would look for when deciding who to pay the checks to.
Trump said: “We have so much money coming in, we’re thinking about a little rebate.
“But the big thing we want to do is pay down debt.
“But we’re thinking about a rebate.
“We’re thinking about a rebate because we have so much money coming in from tariffs that a little rebate for people of a certain income level might be very nice.”
This statement is the first the President has made in regards to a possible rebate check tied to tariffs.
It is not currently clear how much money the tariffs have taken in for the US, or how much they could continue to.
PROMISES KEPT
For months, Americans have been teased about the idea of a rebate, but it seemed that it was going to come from a different place.
Trump’s old pal turned enemy, Elon Musk, was the head of the Department of Government Efficiency.
Musk was put in charge of cutting waste from the federal government’s budget, and Americans were set to reap the rewards.
In a video shared by USA Today, he said: “As government spending is made more efficient and spending is reduced, the tax by inflation is reduced.

But now Musk is no longer working for the government, it is unknown the current status of DOGE.
In May, it was said that DOGE had cut an estimated $160 billion and had a target of $2 trillion.
This would mean that every US taxpayer would get back $993.79 in stimulus cash.
But some high up in the administration have previously spoken against the idea of a rebate, agreeing with Trump that slashing the debt is the priority.
Speaker Mike Johnson commented: “But if you think about our core principles, right, fiscal responsibility is what we do as conservatives.
“That’s our brand. And we have a $36 trillion federal debt, we have a giant deficit that we’re contending with.
“I think we need to pay down the credit card, right?”
