(KRON) -- The Valero Refinery in Benicia is anticipating flaring for “several hours” Wednesday due to a mechanical issue, according to the Benicia Fire Department.
Fire officials said at 8:15 a.m. that the refinery notified them that its flare stacks would be operating intermittently. The flaring is “due to a mechanical issue with their nitrogen plant,” officials said.
No off-site health impacts are expected, according to Benicia FD. The fire department said it will continue to monitor the situation.
In April, Valero announced its intent to “idle, restructure, or cease refining operations” at the Benicia refinery in April next year.
