Say goodbye to the internet, as we know it

For years, websites welcomed web crawlers because being scraped by Google or other search engines meant higher visibility. In return for being indexed, sites received valuable user traffic — typically, for every two bots Google sent, one real visitor followed. Scraping equaled exposure and growth.

AI tools racing to consume online content, scraping no longer leads to traffic — it means being skipped over. Cloud flare reports that Open AI sends 1,500 bots for every user it directs to a site, while Anthropic sends a staggering 60,000. Human visits are leveling off, while bot activity skyrockets — in some cases overwhelming actual users.

Unlike search engines, today’s AI models often do not credit or link back to the original source. They digest content and deliver answers directly within their own platforms, keeping users engaged without ever redirecting them — leaving content creators out of the equation.

Linda Tong, CEO of Web flow, a web design and hosting platform, says this marks one of the most significant shifts she was witnessed in two decades of running internet-based businesses. “It’s completely reshaping how consumers discover and engage with brands, she stated. “For some, it’s a question of survival.”

ChatGPT merged with a browser tab—enhanced to manage tasks, tackle complex queries, adapt to changing context, and feed your curiosity seamlessly.

Perplexity describes Comet as a “second brain” that can research topics, compare products, make purchases, deliver daily briefings, and analyze data—all on your behalf. The goal is to replace the usual multi-tab chaos with streamlined, natural dialogue that simplifies complex tasks into smooth, conversational workflows.

In summary, if Comet or OpenAI’s browser prove successful, the consequences will extend far beyond search engine disruption. They could transform the very structure of the internet. AI agents may cut out the intermediaries—publishers, advertisers, online shops, and software firms—by directly handling tasks, summarizing content, comparing products, and interacting with users without ever visiting the original websites. This marks a pivotal shift in how people engage with information and manage their online activities. The AI-powered browser is not just an idea anymore it is a reality.
