Pawn shop owner pleads guilty to selling items stolen from Joe Burrow in burglary ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

A pawn shop owner in New York City has plead guilty to selling stolen items that belong to former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow.

Burrow was the victim of a highly-publicized burglary last December. His home was broken into during a Bengals game against the Dallas Cowboys last fall.

The pawn shop owner, Dimitriy Nezhinskiy, plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to receive stolen property in a Brooklyn federal court. Per an ESPN report citing unsealed FBI documents, Burrow reported that more than $300,000 worth of his belongings were stolen during the burglary.

It’s alleged that Nezhinskiy worked with a nationwide network of professional burglars to profit off of stolen goods. Burrow is one of numerous high-profile athletes to have their homes burglarized during a game or event in recent months. Other victims include Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Luka Doncic, among others.

“This defendant ran a black-market pipeline, buying stolen luxury goods from organized theft crews that targeted homes and businesses,” New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a statement Friday, via ESPN. “It was a deliberate operation that helped professional burglars prey on innocent people.”

Nezhinskiy and a co-defendant, Juan Villar, are awaiting sentencing.
