I defeated Daniel Dubois in controversial amateur fight, but I retired from boxing after just two pro bouts ...Middle East

Sport by : (talksport) -

Only eight men have conquered Daniel Dubois across his amateur and professional career.

One of those is Polish heavyweight Kamil Mroczkowski.

Mroczkowski became the sixth person to defeat Dubois in the amateurs

The pair collided in November 2015 in Poland but it ended in farcical fashion as the referee disqualified Dubois for what he deemed to be excessive wrestling.

But the chaos did not end there.

Rather than engaging in the customary post-fight handshake, Dubois snubbed his rival completely.

Mroczkowski held his hand out, but the Brit did not want to hang around and immediately walked away.

Even if Dubois had not been disqualified, Mroczkowski told the Express Sport he was confident he would have had his hand raised regardless.

“I think I would’ve won,” Mroczkowski said.

He continued: “He refused to shake my hand because it’s not my decision. It’s disrespectful to me.”

After defeating Dubois, Mroczkowski went on to have just two fights in his professional heavyweight career.

Both of those were victories, with one coming via technical knockout while the other was an unanimous decision.

Despite his 100 per cent win record, Mroczkowski has not fought since March 2022.

As for Dubois, his professional career could not be more of a contrast.

The Brit boasts a 22-2 record as a professional, with 21 of his wins coming via knockout.

He is also the IBF heavyweight champion and will put his title on the line this Saturday against Oleksandr Usyk.

The pair will contest for the undisputed heavyweight crown at Wembley.

It marks the second fight between the two as Dubois earned his shot thanks to a staggering knockout win over Anthony Joshua last September.

Dubois’ win over his fellow countryman was his third on the bounce since his first scrap against Usyk, which was mired in controversy.

In the fifth round, ‘Dynamite’ landed a thudding shot on Usyk’s midriff that left the Ukrainian in a crumpled heap on the canvas.

However, the referee deemed it a low blow as Usyk was given plenty of time to recover.

He managed to flip the bout on its head and eventually stop Dubois in the ninth round to defend his IBF, IBO and WBO heavyweight straps.

But Dubois will hope to exact revenge on Saturday to hand Usyk his first defeat as a professional.
