A former deputy police chief with the Chicago Police Department was named the new chief of police for the city of Evans, the city announced Friday afternoon.
Randall Darlin comes to Evans from Northglenn, Illinois where he was also a deputy chief in four years with the department.
Darlin spent the previous almost 28 years in Chicago where he started as police officer in November 1993. He rose through the ranks to sergeant, lieutenant, captain and commander. Darlin was deputy chief in the office of operations and deputy chief in the bureau of crime control strategies during his final 16 months with the department, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Darlin was selected from among four finalists including interim chief Mike Zeller. Darlin starts work Monday, according to the news release from city manager Cody R. Sims.

I believe Chief Darlin’s leadership will be transformational for the Evans Police Department and will push us all to be better public servants.”
Darlin is a licensed attorney in the state of Illinois. He has a law degree from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. Darlin also has a bachelor’s degree from UIC.
“I’m super excited for this opportunity. In the process I was able to learn that the City of Evans has an incredibly dedicated leadership team, we are going to work with the leadership team to make the Police Department a model agency for policing in Colorado,” Darlin said in the news release.
The city of Evans announcements said Darlin through his career has developed and implemented multiple strategies to reduce serious crime and improve public safety. The city cited Darlin’s experience in very large and medium-sized municipalities, his work in complex and dangerous situations and learning innovative approaches to crime reduction.
The two other finalists for the Evans chief job were Ryan Baranyos, a police captain in Estes Park, and Jason Janopoulos, who has experience in Chicago and Albuquerque, New Mexico departments.
