Lori Rome, a spokeswoman for the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, said there was heavy lightning activity early Thursday morning in the area and two fires were spotted burning inside the park’s boundary — one on the north rim and one on the south rim.

Specifically, Rome said, one fire is burning near Kneeling Camel and the other is near the park’s west boundary.

She said crews from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management are currently fighting the fires. The size of the fires are not currently known, Rome said.

This is a developing story.
