Oscar’s Place
Donkeys have so much love to give. They may not wag their tails like dogs or curl up in your lap like a cat, but if you spend time with a donkey, you’ll feel their steady, gentle affection. They lean their heads into your chest. They follow you around the pasture. They rest their noses against you…and just stay there.
These are animals who have often come from neglect or abuse. Yet repeatedly, they choose to trust humans again. They choose to love.
Volunteers often are heard saying, “We save donkeys, but they save us, too.”

Oscar’s Place is located at 4425 Hwy 175, Hopland, CA 95449. Telephone: (707) 349-9617. 501(c)3 Verified by Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries
For those who want to visit, people are required to sign up for a tour through the website or email Madyson: madyson@oscarsplace.org After the tour, people can stay and pet donkeys!
One volunteer (serving her third year) said, “We desperately need monthly donors, so if you know anyone who would be interested in sponsoring a donkey (monthly) that would be great. No amount is too small.”
At their June fundraiser, the owners said, “Because of you, 380 donkeys have been saved by Oscar’s Place and 159 of them have found loving forever homes. Thank you for giving our donkeys safety, peace, and freedom.”
Donkeys are some of the most loving and trusting creatures on earth, and when they suffer because humans are unkind, Oscar’s Place steps in.
“While we are just a team of everyday individuals, we deeply care for and are committed to providing a safe haven for donkeys in need.
“We focus on donkeys because the world’s donkey population is being decimated. Not by disease, global warming, or predators. But because there is a high demand for their hides in the creation of a traditional Chinese medicine.
“They deserve better than to be abused, crowded into horrifying transport containers, and shipped off to slaughter factories. Our mission is straight-forward: To every donkey that makes its way to Oscar’s Place, we will do everything in our power to keep that animal safe, healthy, and happy…for the rest of its life.
“We love animals, and quite frankly, we need to team up with other people who also care about what happens to these beautiful creatures.
The good news is that it doesn’t take much to make a significant difference.
“When you donate, you help a donkey recover emotionally and physically from its past. You are restoring their belief in humans as caregivers. Your impact even makes it possible to rehome donkeys to carefully-screened adopters, which enables us to bring more of these precious animals into our care system.
“Again, we are not special, but our team consists of caring employees, volunteers, veterinarians, and farriers – all with a singular objective: to help donkeys recover physically, mentally, and emotionally.
“Every person on-site is committed to hands-on interaction with our donkeys, every day. Loving them. Calming them. Healing them. We want to show them that humans can be good,” declared everyone at Oscar’s Place!
