Scott Marshall Partners confirmed the sad news in a statement released today, which read: "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved client, Frank Barrie, at the age of 88. He died peacefully at home, with his wife Mary and daughter Julia."
Sharing an image of Barrie from one of the episodes, they wrote: "We are deeply saddened to hear that Frank Barrie has passed away. Our love and thoughts are with Frank's family and friends."
View oEmbed on the source websiteAside from his stint in Walford, Barrie was best known for his work in the theatre, having made his acting debut back in 1959 in a York Theatre Royal production of Henry IV, Part 2.
His illustrious stage career involved taking on the roles of Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, a role he reprised on Broadway and toured throughout the US and Europe at the time.
More recently, Barrie starred in the 2020 stage production of Flashman at 80, in which he appeared as Harry Flashman to celebrate the character's fictional bicentennial.
In terms of television, Barrie appeared in over 150 TV shows in varying roles, having featured in Doctors, Howards' Way and Queen of Swords.
