Damascus Affirms “Unity” of Army and Government, Rejects Partition ...Syria

News by : (ُEnabbaladi) -

The Syrian government expressed its welcome on Wednesday, July 9, to any course of action with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that would enhance the unity and territorial integrity of Syria.

Reaffirming its firm commitment to the principle of “One Syria, One Army, One Government,” the government categorically rejected any form of division or federalization that contradicts Syria’s sovereignty and territorial unity.

According to a statement published by the Syrian official news agency (SANA), in light of recent developments regarding the implementation of the agreement signed with the SDF, the government welcomes any path that promotes the unity and integrity of Syrian lands.

The statement also thanked the American efforts in sponsoring the implementation of the agreement, emphasizing the shared interest in stability and national unity.

The Syrian state reiterated its steadfast adherence to the principle of “One Syria, One Army, One Government,” highlighting that the Syrian army is the national institution uniting all citizens, and it welcomes the integration of Syrian fighters from the SDF into its ranks under constitutional and legal frameworks.

While the government showed understanding of the challenges faced by some SDF factions, it warned that any delay in implementing the signed agreements does not serve the national interest but complicates the situation and hinders efforts to restore security and stability throughout Syria.

The statement emphasized the necessity of restoring official state institutions to northeastern Syria, including services, health, education, and local administration, to ensure the provision of basic services, end the administrative vacuum, and promote social stability.

It pointed out that experience has proven that relying on separatist projects or foreign agendas is a losing bet, and that what is needed today is a return to a unifying national identity and engagement in the Syrian national project.

“The Kurdish component has always been and remains an integral part of Syria’s diverse fabric,” the statement noted.

The government stressed that the rights of all Syrians, regardless of their backgrounds, are protected and respected within state institutions—not outside of them.

It called on all national forces to unite and work together under the banner of the homeland, away from narrow interests or foreign interference, aiming for “a safe, united, independent Syria fully sovereign over its territory.”

New Negotiation Round

According to Hawar News Agency, close to the Autonomous Administration, a new round of negotiations took place in Damascus on July 9 between the Syrian government and SDF representatives.

The government delegation included Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani, Interior Minister Anas Khattab, Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra, and Intelligence Chief Hussein Salama.

The SDF and Autonomous Administration were represented by Commander Mazloum Abdi, co-chairs Fawza Yusuf, and Abdul Hamid al-Mahbash, along with Ilham Ahmed, head of the External Relations Department of the Administration.

A source told Hawar (name undisclosed) that the talks focused on mechanisms for implementing the agreement signed by al-Sharaa and Abdi, working to overcome obstacles to the agreement’s application.

They discussed border crossings, integration of institutions in northeastern Syria with government bodies, and security and military coordination between both sides.

Participants described the meeting as “positive,” according to Hawar.

There were rumors of a possible trilateral meeting including al-Sharaa, US envoy  Thomas Barrack West, and SDF leader Mazloum Abdi; however, Al-Hadath TV denied that such a meeting took place, citing unnamed sources.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent did not observe any presence of Autonomous Administration delegations during al-Sharaa’s meeting with the West.

US Special Envoy Thomas Barrack West stated that the Syrian government is eager to incorporate the SDF into its ranks, while the latter has been slow to accept and negotiate.

West told Rudaw news network (based in Iraqi Kurdistan) on July 9 that Damascus seeks “one state, one nation, one army, one government,” describing the government as “generous” in its efforts to unify these interests.
