Officials have identified the 60-year-old man who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash that closed the Edens Expressway Monday afternoon.
According to police, Illinois State Police and firefighters were called to the crash scene near milepost 30 in Northbrook on Monday afternoon for reports of a multi-vehicle collision.
Police found three vehicles that had been involved in the crash, one of which was sent spinning off the roadway and heavily damaged by the force of the impact.
An occupant of one of the vehicles, a 60-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
The victim in the crash was identified as Waukegan resident Martin Maldonado-Velazquez, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office. A preliminary autopsy determined that Maldonado-Velazquez had died of blunt force injuries as a result of the crash.
Officials said the crash closed the Edens Expressway for several hours, and also closed the Edens Spur between the Tri-State and the Edens on Monday afternoon. The Dundee Road and Lake-Cook Road ramps were also closed during the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation by Illinois State Police, according to authorities.
