An attorney for Gary Pinkel has released a statement after the former Mizzou coach was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated (alcohol) on Monday night.
Columbia attorney Bogdan Susan released a statement to Power Mizzou:
I have spoken to Gary and asked him to not make any statements at this time. He is retired and a private citizen. While the situation is unfortunate, he is entitled to a defense. He will be entering a plea of not guilty. These cases take time and we will respect and follow the appropriate judicial procedures through to its conclusion. Until that time, it is important to keep in mind that individuals are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch noted Tuesday afternoon that Pinkel’s arrest was listed on Missouri State Highway Patrol records. It shows that Pinkel was arrested at 11:46 p.m. Monday in Camden County. He was later released.
Pinkel, 73, coached Mizzou football from 2001-15 before retiring from the program. He was suspended by MU athletics for 1 week in 2011 after an arrest for DWI. Pinkel completed his Mizzou tenure with a 113-73 record with 5 vacated wins from the final season. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2022.
