Patrick Mahomes has more than enough bulletin board material.
It’s hard to say the Kansas City Chiefs superstar isn’t the best player in the NFL with a straight face.

In any given season, Mahomes is at worst the second – or third – best player in the league, but such are his standards that the smallest hint of anything other than brilliance cause a stir.
Not that anyone ever doubts him, really.
Ask yourself who you would want with the ball in their hands to win you a football game? To win you a Super Bowl? How about three of them?
The answer is number 15 in Kansas City.
Yet, coming off back-to-back Super Bowl victories, heading into the 2024 season, Mahomes was doubted by his very contemporaries.
In the NFL’s annual Top 100 Players list, voted on by the players themselves, Mahomes shockingly came in at number four.
What was more shocking were the names listed above him, specifically at number three and number one.
Ahead of him were San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey at No. 3, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson at No. 2, and former teammate and current Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill at No. 1.
What do all three of those guys have in common?
Mahomes beat them all in the postseason on his way to his third ring while the list was being crafted and voted on.

“It is what it is,” Mahomes told reporters back in August 2024.
The Chiefs star had beated Hill in the AFC wild-card round, Jackson in the AFC Championship and McCaffrey in OT in Super Bowl LVII.
There’s no question who got the last laugh, and while all three players above him had outstanding years, Jackson was the league MVP after all, the list still looked foolish then and even more so now.
Mahomes led the Chiefs back to their third straight Super Bowl appearance, looking to become the first team in NFL history to three-peat.

However, that wasn’t meant to be, as the Philadelphia Eagles put an end to Kansas City’s hopes, thrashing them in Super Bowl LIX 40-22.
If winning back-to-back Super Bowls only gets you to No. 4, where does losing the big game place you?
Mahomes has been ranked No. 1 on the list in the past, both in 2021 and 2023, so occupying the top spot is nothing new.
And it is fair to look at the last few regular seasons that the Chiefs franchise quarterback has had, and not automatically just place him at No. 1.
Jackson, along with reigning MVP Josh Allen, have had better regular seasons in recent years than Mahomes. It just becomes silly when he is as low as No. 4 considering the fact he routinely beats the guys ahead of him when it matters, in the playoffs.
A warning to the NFL, keep ranking Mahomes low at your own peril, as he has proven time and time again, betting against 15 in Kansas City is usually a fool’s errand.
