“After 27 fantastic years, I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam,” wrote Cameron, who joined the group in 1998 (replacing drummer Jack Irons). Before that, Cameron played in the proto-grunge group Bam Bam, fronted by underground icon Tina Bell and one of Pearl Jam’s fellow grunge rock gods: Soundgarden.

“I am forever grateful to the crew, staff, and fans the world over,” concluded Cameron. “It’s been an incredible journey. More to follow. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”

Additionally, Cameron played in Temple of the Dog, a Seattle supergroup featuring Cornell and the members of Pearl Jam. The band was a tribute to the late Andrew Wood, lead singer of Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone (the band Gossard and Ament were in before Pearl Jam).

Following the news of Cameron’s departure, fans speculated that he may be joining Foo Fighters. Early in the year, the band fired its drummer, Josh Freese, without any explanation. Recently, the band continued its 30th anniversary celebration by releasing its first new song in two years.
