Kagiso Rabada and Aiden Markram both played key roles in South Africa’s ICC World Test Championship (WTC) victory over Australia last month. On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s dependable opener Pathum Nissanka impressed everyone with consistent performances last month.

Meanwhile, Markram played a key role in South Africa’s historic WTC Final 2025 triumph over Australia at Lord’s. However, the Proteas opener was out for a duck in the first innings, but he made an impact with the ball, taking key wickets of Steve Smith and Josh Hazlewood.

With South Africa chasing a tough 282 runs, Markram led the fightback. He built solid partnerships with Wiaan Mulder and Temba Bavuma and scored a brilliant 136 to power South Africa to their first ICC men’s trophy in 27 years. They had crushed Australia by 5 wickets at Lord’s.

He surpassed the legendary Allan Donald on South Africa’s all-time wicket-takers list. Rabada now has 336 Test wickets and sits fourth among South Africa’s top wicket-takers in Test history.

He later made 24 in the second innings to help the Islanders secure a draw in the final session. In the second test, Nissanka once again delivered with the bat. After Bangladesh were bowled out for 247, he scored a brilliant 158 with 19 boundaries, guiding Sri Lanka to a big lead of 211. That lead proved enough, as Sri Lanka won by an innings and 78 runs.

Speaking about the women’s nominees, South Africa opener Tazmin Brits was in red-hot form in June, scoring 184 runs in the ODI series at an average of 61.33 and a strike rate of 87.61. Her scores were 57, 26, and a brilliant 101 off 91 balls, which earned Brits the Player of the Series award.

Meanwhile, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews delivered a remarkable all-round show in the white-ball series against South Africa. In the ODI series, she scored 104 runs with a top score of 56 and took 4 wickets at an average of 34.25. Despite her efforts, the West Indies lost the ODIs 2-1.
