It doesn’t sound as though Urban Meyer will be a college football general manager anytime soon.
The former Florida and Ohio State coach had a colorful reaction to the idea when speaking on the Triple Option podcast earlier this week. Meyer said he met with a school that was interested in hiring him as their general manager this offseason, but quickly declined the opportunity after hearing the job description.
“I thought, ‘I’d rather step on a rusty nail and pull it out myself,” Meyer said after learning that the role would require him to work with agents of high school prospects. “I mean, what in the world?”
The conversation quickly moved on after that comment, as Meyer was interviewing new Oklahoma football general manager Jim Nagy on the show. Meyer didn’t name the program he said that was courting him for the role.
Meyer has transitioned into a successful career in media. He initially joined FOX back in 2019 and then returned following a 1-year break from broadcasting as he was the head coach of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. Meyer was fired from that role after just 13 games and then resumed his broadcasting career.
Meyer is once again expected to play a big role in FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff this fall.
