Most 14-year-olds haggle for pocket money. They don’t have autonomy over their lives. It’s their parents’ or guardians’ job to make the decisions for them, both the easy and hard ones. That isn’t the case with Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Even before turning 14, the talented teenage cricketer had Rs 1.10 crore in his bank after the Rajasthan Royals (RR) bought him at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. He earned a further 52.50 lakh during the season for playing 7 matches.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s biggest challenge
Suryavanshi has already earned more than most do in India throughout their lives. And it’s just the start. We have seen players in the past let go of themselves after gaining fame and money. These cricketers aren’t 14. That’s why it’s essential that Suryavanshi remains in a good environment.

The former Punjab Kings captain thinks that it’s good that Suryavanshi is a part of RR. With two level-headed individuals like Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour as his coaches. Kumar Sangakkara, another well-respected figure, is also present to impart knowledge to Suryavanshi.
A blessing that happened to him is that he was in great hands… Rahul Bhai, Vikram Paji (coaches of Rajasthan Royals). They are very, very good cricketers. They don’t just believe in making good cricketers but good human beings as well. It’s very important to be a good human being,” he added.
IPL 2026 will be a challenge, predicts Dhawan
We’ve seen players being found out after one successful season. Before Suryavanshi played, there was negligible data to see what he excels at and what doesn’t work for him. But now everyone knows it all. Bowlers will have proper plans for him. Then there will be the weight of expectations from fans and Suryavanshi himself.
“I feel that the second year is gonna be a bit tough for him. Bowlers will know what his strength is. They are gonna plan better against him. He has to face those challenges and grow. How he takes care of his mental health will be very important going forward because expectations will rise. The self-expectation will rise as well. How he is gonna handle all that stuff is what I am looking forward to seeing,” Dhawan added.
