Texas Tech made a massive splash on the recruiting trail on Friday afternoon.

The Red Raiders earned a commitment from 5-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo, beating out SEC giants Texas for the elite lineman. Ojo is now the highest-ranked recruit in the history of Texas Tech football.

According to a report from Hayes Fawcett, Texas Tech earned Ojo’s commitment by agreeing to pay him more than $5 million over the course of a 3-year deal. Fawcett cites a report from Ojo’s agent in that report.

With the House Settlement getting official approval last month, college football programs are now able to pay players directly via revenue sharing. Ojo’s deal with the Red Raiders is “fully guaranteed,” according to Fawcett’s reporting.

This is a massive addition for Texas Tech, but it’s also a significant missed opportunity for the Longhorns. Ojo is the No. 7 overall player and the No. 2 offensive tackle in the country for the class of 2026. He’s also the No. 1 player from the state of Texas, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Ojo is listed at 6-foot-6, 275 pounds. With this kind of a guarantee from Texas Tech, it’s likely the Red Raiders see him as an early contributor once he gets to Lubbock in 2026.

Texas Tech has upped its spending significantly in recent months. The Red Raiders landed the nation’s No. 2-ranked transfer recruiting class this past cycle, beating out more prominent programs like Ole Miss, Oregon and Miami. Only LSU signed a higher-rated transfer class than Texas Tech in 2025.

Looking ahead to this fall, expectations for Texas Tech are high. The Red Raiders are +600 to win the Big 12 according to the latest odds from BetMGM. That’s tied for the best odds to win that league alongside Arizona State, Kansas State, Baylor and Utah.
