Al Nassr are considering a £73million move for Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli, talkSPORT understands.
The Saudi Pro League outfit are ready to buy big this summer in the hope of landing a first league title since 2019.
Gabriel Martinelli has been targeted by Saudi club Al NassrGettyAnd the club – spearheaded by Cristiano Ronaldo – can get straight to work on bolstering their squad after the Saudi FA granted clubs an early start to the transfer window.
The Saudi transfer window opened on Thursday – 17 days earlier than usual – meaning Premier League clubs can expect incoming interest in their stars.
Martinelli appears to be one player of interest in the Middle East with Al Nassr set to lose out on top target Luis Diaz after Liverpool rebuffed an approach for the Colombian winger.
Al Nassr wants to make quick work of their transfer business this summer and could now turn to Martinelli to test’s Arsenal‘s resolve of the Brazilian.
According to talkSPORT’s Saudi correspondent Ben Jacobs, Arsenal are yet to receive contact from Al Nassr and are reluctant to sell the 24-year-old.
However, if the Gunners are presented with a bid deemed too good to turn down, then the money recouped could help fund a move for either Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon or wantaway Real Madrid star Rodrygo.
A sale amounting to £73m would instantly smash Arsenal’s record for a sale which stands at the £35m that Liverpool paid them for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in 2017.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen to add fresh faces to his frontline this summer following an injury-ravaged campaign which saw him having to field a patched-up front three for long periods last season.
The Gunners have been linked with Gordon for some time while Liverpool have also shown interest.
Arsenal’s interest in Rodrygo has come to light in the last few months owing to the Brazilians’ gripes at Real Madrid, having fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.
Mikel Arteta may have to plan without the services of Gabriel Martinelli in the event of an acceptable bidGetty GettyArsenal’s links with Real Madrid’s Rodrygo continue to surface[/caption]A falling out with former boss Carlo Ancelotti in the spring made tensions worse and the arrival of new Madrid boss Xabi Alonso doesn’t appear to have made his situation any better having played just 23 minutes in Los Blancos’ four Club World Cup games so far.
He was left out of the side entirely for the recent wins over Pachuca and Juventus in the United States.
The emergence of youngster Gonzalo Garcia, who has led the line for Madrid in the absence of Kylian Mbappe, has not helped Rodrygo’s plight.
Ahead of the victory over Juventus, Alonso praised Rodrygo’s output in training but said it is his decision who plays.
“After the game I try to approach everyone I meet along the way,” Alonso said. “He had a few minutes [against Salzburg] that were important for him and he will be important.
“In these championships, sometimes those who start are just as important as those who come in. They can have a decisive impact, so each player has to be prepared for whatever comes their way. Everyone is in a good disposition.
Cristiano Ronaldo will play a hand in helping Al Nassr replace the outgoing Jhon DuranAFP“Rodrygo is training well and I see him in good spirits. Then it’s my decision who plays.”
Meanwhile, Ronaldo is helping drive Al Nassr’s summer recruitment plans with the Premier League a likely market.
Aston Villa midfield Amadou Onana is a reported target as is West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus as Al Nassr look to replace Jhon Duran who is closing in on a loan switch to Fenerbahce.
Tottenham remain interested in the Ghanaian who has a release clause of £120m for Saudi clubs.
However, the Hammers would likely sell for around £60-65m with the right structure.
