The 24-year-old who was out on 99 in Headingley, ensured he got to the three-figure this time around in Birmingham.

Coming into bat at 25/3, Harry Brook ensured England put up a fight in response to India’s 587 in the India vs England Test in Birmingham. Brook was jittery to start off but continued to grow in confidence. Having lost Joe Root and captain Ben Stokes, the onus was on the 24-year-old to steer England clear of danger. And he did so in style.

With Smith going berserk at the other end, Brook was sedate in comparison as they plundered 172 runs in just 27 overs in the 1st session on Day 3. Brook eventually got to his century in 137 deliveries, stitching a 200-run stand with Smith.
It was his 9th Test century, in just his 27th Test, averaging a ton every 3 Tests. The 24-year-old is the third fastest to achieve 9 Test tons for England, reaching the milestone in just 44 innings. He also became the fastest in terms of strike rate to reach 2500 runs in Test cricket. He has done so in just 2,832 balls, striking at a strike rate of 88.84. Rishabh Pant, one of the most destructive test batters, has a strike rate of 74.03 in comparison.
