The Broad unveils Native-focused summer concert series tied to Jeffrey Gibson Exhibit ...Middle East

News by : (Los Angeles Daily News) -

The Broad will present a two-night summer concert series, Past + Future=Present Pt. 1 and Pt. 2, on Aug. 16 and Sept. 20. The live shows are curated in tandem with the museum’s special exhibition, Jeffrey Gibson: the space in which to place me, highlighting Native American musicians across genres and generations.

Night one on Aug.16 features a stacked lineup of contemporary Native artists. Haisla Nation hip-hop duo Snotty Nose Rez Kids and indie rocker Black Belt Eagle Scout will perform on the Lobby Stage, while renowned electronic producer Jlin will debut new collaborative compositions with Navajo/Diné musician Glen Begay and Bearspring in Oculus Hall. DJ Noir opens the night with a genre-spanning set.

The second event, scheduled for Sept. 20, includes performances by Dallas-based Cherokee Nation soul singer M’lynn and Red Lake Ojibwe artist Joe Rainey, whose experimental blend of pow wow vocals and electronic music has gained attention for its powerful and genre-defying approach. The evening concludes with a DJ set from deesco, a Teme-Augama Anishnabai club DJ known for curating inclusive dance floor experiences in L.A.’s queer and Indigenous music scenes. Additional acts for the second date will be announced soon.

Both events take place from 8 to 11 p.m. and include full gallery access, food and drink options in the outdoor plaza, and performances spread across The Broad’s Lobby Stage, Oculus Hall, and East West Bank Plaza.

Tickets for each night are $25 at thebroad.org.

More than just a concert series, this event connects The Broad’s visual arts programming with the voices of Native musicians whose work reflects cultural memory, creative innovation, and community resistance. As Gibson’s exhibition explores identity and empowerment through color, text, and symbolic references, the music lineup brings those themes to life with urgent performances that are as celebratory as they are grounded in generational experience.

The Broad is located in downtown Los Angeles at 221 S. Grand Avenue.
