More than 485,000 citizens returned to Syria during the first half of 2025 from neighboring countries as part of the voluntary return process, according to Mazen Alloush, Director of Public Relations at the General Authority for Land and Sea Border Crossings.

Thousands of Syrians residing beyond the neighboring countries also returned permanently, benefiting from a series of facilitations issued by the authority, in addition to the services provided at border crossings, Alloush said on Thursday, July 3.

Facilitations and Trained Staff

According to Alloush, border authority personnel continue to work around the clock to receive returnees, offering hospitality services that include speeding up administrative procedures, providing free transportation within the border points, and exempting returnees from any fees related to their luggage or household furniture.

The authority is also continuing its training of personnel at various crossings as part of a plan to rehabilitate and modernize them. This includes specialized training courses focused on developing technical and administrative skills, improving day-to-day performance, and ensuring field teams are prepared to handle challenges efficiently and professionally, according to the authority’s Facebook page.

350,000 Crossings in June

The authority stated that this high number reflects growing confidence in the procedures and services available at the crossing, including customs facilitation, speedy processing, and effective cooperation among various departments.

In a video published by the authority, the crossing’s customs official, Hussein Mohammad Ali, said that customs officers cooperate with travelers crossing the border, whether by public or private transport, and offer services and support to traders to ease the entry of their goods into the local market.
